Hey! Months ago the oil temperature indicator started to go up (to the right temperature level) and down untill it stopped working completely, no temperature is shown.

From diagbox I get an error for the oil temperature sensor, is it something I can try repair myself (maybe by cleaning)? Do you know where this sensor is on the C5 X7 3.0 hdi engine?

I've been told it's number 24, it's the level oil sensor which should function as temperature sensor too, but I don't know how to access and remove it:

Basically I opened this thread to answer myself :D

here are the full instructions on how to replace the oil level and temperature sensor:

it's not english but you can translate if you need it!

anyway before changing it, which costs 80€, is there a way I can test if maybe the connector is faulty or if the issue is some dirt or something else that affects the correct reading of the sensor?

Sometimes a lot of oil gets into the connector. You can take it off and clean it. After that maybe your problem is solved and you saved €80. You can see in the picture you posted where it is located. You have to lie down in front of the car though if you can't lift it.
Like you said, no 24. On the distribution side of the engine, just above the sump.
If it is a combined probe, there should at least be 3 wires in the connector.
